Astro shots from Nepal

Post by jiahao1986 »

Extremely bad luck in Nepal. Affected by a typhoon, only got 3 clear nights out of the 11 days. Below are two of the few astro shots taken.

Moonlit Annapurna mountain range and startrails, taken at Ghandruk village, Nepal. The 3 main mountains visible in the picture are, from left to right, Annapurna South-7219m, Hiunchuli-6441m and Machhapuchhre(the Fishtail)-6995m:

Taken at Ghandruk village, Nepal. Note the "V" shape pattern formed by the milkyway and Gegenschein. The reddish and greenish tints on the bottom are the airglow. Also note the main deepsky objects like the Andromeda Galaxy, the Double Cluster, the California Nebula and the Pleides. The mountain on the bottom left is the Fishtail mountain:

The observing condition in the Annapurna mountain range is near perfect with light pollution approaching zero. When the sky is clear, the milkyway is breathtaking and Gegenschein is VERY obvious without averted vision. Actually, with a bit of averted vision, the WHOLE zodiacal band above the horizon is visible. Simply amazing. If only that typhoon didn't strike Nepal...

wow...amazing shot! The sky must be breathtaking over there.
Are you near the coast? I thought typhoons typically blow themselves out when they hit land. [smilie=admire.gif]

We were actually well inland. After the typhoon striked the west coast of India, it continued north to affect New Dehli and even Nepal and Tibet...

For this shot, how long was the exposure and the ISO?
