Hi all,
Just got back to Singapore and am looking forward to joining the ob sessions=)
Anyway, would like to get your advice and opinions on storing my cpc 11".
Was thinking of buying a dehumidifier and placing in the store room, but not sure how feasible that would be.
Anyone with experience and better suggestions. Would really appreciate it.
Thanks alot,
Colin
how to keep my 11" CPC
Here is a suggestion:
Get a second-hand aquarium tank big enough to house the CPC11 laid on it's side, have a tank cover big enough to seal the tank and then bore two holes on the cover at extreme ends and insert PVC tubes such that it can channel a steady flow of hydrocholoric acid from a separate canister...
seriously...
if getting a dry cabinet large enough to put the CPC11 in comfortably is tough on the wallet, you could get film canisters or the like and insert some silica beads within and put into the visual back adapter, or purchase commercially made ones from Particle Wave Technologies (or the likes). However, you will still need to keep a watch on the corrector plate and ensure the white stuff don't grow.
or
keep those huge plastic tupperware-like boxes (Toyogo, etc) and house the CPC11 together with silica gel, other drying agents.
or
have a customized dry cabinet made for the CPC11.
or
get those portable drying agent machines that could dry out the entire store room where you could place the CPC11 within.
Hope this helps!

Hi Colin, there is a commercially available dry cab that will fit the CPC11 - or at least just the OTA without the fork arms.

Actually that may be too big as I got it to fit a C11 and some other scopes. Probably a smaller one might work.
If there is one lesson I have learned, it is to really try very hard to keep the white stuff off these scopes. I recently had my scopes cleaned by Joo Beng, but had it not been for him, I would have been at a loss!

Hi,
Yap, you can use a dehumidifier and placing in the room... you can check with joo beng how he do it.
Or you can just setup in your room without caps on (quite dangerous for SCT), but you need to make sure the air circulation is good. Also, air it and "suntan" it regularly will prevent fungus.
Have a nice day.

Check out my earlier post to see what I did to protect my curry pot. FYI I need to empty the dehumidifier reservoir every 3-4 weeks (not 3-4 days as stated in the post).

CPC 11 transport
Hi Colin,
Just out of curiousity how do you transport your CPC for observation? I have a 91/4 CPC and transportation is really a hassle and it is preventing me from observing the skies more:((
