Twin stars?

Last night, seeing a clear sky for once, I tried to do some simple photography.

Canopus was high in the night sky, to the South, at ~ Alt 35-36degrees, around 9pm.

I then noticed another star just off to the left of Canopus, around the same Alt. After 21-shots @ 1sec exposure, I stacked them and DDS detected 200+ stars.

But I noticed that the star I focused on seemed to have a twin snuggled right next to it. I've tried to locate it on Stellarium but can't seem to pin it down.

Anyone knows what star it might have been? At work now, but I'll try to post up a pic of the shot and the 2-stars captured later this evening. (It's amateurish though, so forgive me )

Okay, here is the full picture. ISO400, f/5.6 1-sec exposure * 21, with 1 Dark.

Canopus should be just off the picture, to the right side.




And here is the star seen in the centre of the above pic, enlarged.




Can anyone help to identify which star is this? Cos I can't seem to find it on Stellarium.... I'm guesstimating it's Regor, but I'm a bit confused...

With such limited information, it's very difficult to ID the star and there are lots of double stars out there.

No worries, I understand that

Thanks to my wife's sharp eyes, I believe it was Regor... she noticed the arrow head pattern between Vela and Pupis
