Basically, a friend of mine snapped the cable for the Meade Autostar II controller to his 12" LX200. We tried a normal RJ-11 phone jack but it did not fit into either ends of the controller or HBX port on the LX200 panel. However the RJ-11 phone jack did fit into the R232 port of the LX200 panel.
What we are more concerned with is the jack needed to fit into the HBX port of the LX200 control panel; since if it is a standard jack then a cable bought from a hardware shop would suffice. Is a proprietary cable made by Meade itself needed to connect the cable from the Autostar II port to the LX200 panel? Thanks!

It is probably an RJ12 or 4P4C (as you have discovered the RJ11 doesn't fit).
There is probably some wiring diagram out there. I have some spare RJ12's and a crimper from my Meade project.... but you can get all the parts you need from Sim Lim Tower.
The plug on the control panel is probably an RJ45. I don't have the wiring diagram handy.

Here's what I found from the web: The plug that fits into the HBX socket is a standard RJ10 (just like that which connects to a telephone handset).
RJ10 refers to 4P4C, since it is not really a registered jack per se, so I will try to get a cable... though I am not sure if the wiring is correct or I will have to crimp the pins and wires
