Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

buying stellarvue scopes

Post by r-ion »

hi all,
im interested in buying a stellarvue apo scope for AP, specifically the SVR90t, the fpl 53 glass with carbon fiber body, not the flourite one.

do any of the local distributors ship stellarvue? i would prefer not to request for them to import as that can usually cost quite alot...

would shipping from OPT be the best option? in terms of cost. also is there alot of paperwork to clear customs when importing from overseas suppliers like OPT?

any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

No, the import + GST paperwork will be done for you by the shipper, be it FEDEX, UPS or USPS.

Does it have to be a SV? WO ships directly from Taiwan to Sg.

i see, thanks for the advice.

currently more interested in the SV scope as it seems to produce better images. i have access to a Megrez 80, which was pretty good for visual but not quite for imaging. SV also seems to be the only 90mm triplet avaliable other than than the TMB 92ss if im not mistaken.

you can't compare a doublet to a triplet.. the W-O most comparable to the SVR90T would be the FLT-98.

im aware of that, which is why im looking for triplets. most reviews seem to rank the stellarvue scopes above WO. acessories for stellarvue scopes are also alot less expensive compared to similar apeture takahashi socpes or other brands.

Not sure about our local vendors perhaps you could check with them if they can import it in for you.

Stellarvue ships to Asia as I have been in touch with them regarding their SVR105 Raptor...hehe! Been saving for this!! Hope hope**

But unless your a long time customer they only take wire transfer for payment. You could go thru OPT but if your a new customer...credit cards and Paypal for payments under US$1000...anything more is wire transfer. Prob i find with wire is not so much the delay but all those extra bank admin charges for something that in total takes several minutes...woo! [smilie=bleeding.gif]

Astronomics doesn't require all sorts of contortions if you pay via credit card.. bought some stuff from them ages ago. There's also a discount for CN members.

i contacted stellarvue about shipping directly to singapore, but their method of payment is also by wire transfer. trying not to use wire trasnfer as i heard it can be quite messy and complicated. i didnt noe about OPT's $1000 limit fo new customers, is there a way around it maybe emailing them directly?

checked astronomics, the dont carry stellarvue

The info from OPT is from an email correspondence I have with them. Both OPT and Stellarvue are really nice and prompt in their replies. But I can understand from their end when so much credit card fraud did come from Asia...and sadly some from SG. Kinda made it hard for us...sob sob! But the good thing about OPT is they need the trust, hence only for new international customers that they do this...thereafter, one can pay by credit card..
