Strange world

Hi guys i'm Jingguo. Hope that u guys can help me ans some qes. 1. i recently read an issue in Astronomy magzine and come across this term Brown Dwarf. So what is a brown dwarf? example: Gliese 229b in the constellation Lepus and 2. How does it form?? thanks alot

If i remember correctly, a brown dwarf is a failed star. Nuclear reactions started briefly at it's core, but there isn't enough mass to sustain it. So it's a stellar corpse, just sitting out there.

All stars start as protostars. Depending on their mass, they will eventually evolve into the different categories of luminosity of stars. However, stars that are too small and fail to reach the evolution stage become browf dwarfs and die off. Also known as "failed stars" because they fail to start the most basic evolutionary proccess of stellar evolution.
