They are out there! It all depends whether how long you lookup. Instead of cranking my neck - I have chosen to use a look-up video system. The Field of Vision (FOV) is ~ 14x12 degree - even with this little 'window' typical catch is around 3-4 meteors per 6 hrs ( when the meteor activity are low) are common for our cloudy, light polluted sky.
For a nice big fireball to appear within this little 'window' so far I have captured only a very few handful ( 1-2 ) per year weather permitting.
