hi, u may like to go and watch the final round for the sec sch category and the tertiary/jc category on 8th june. it is quite rewarding. I'm disappointed that there is no observation round this year...

haha.. i don't think NUS allowed GOTO (last year all of us brought manual scopes ) .. if not, what's the point of hunting down sky objects.. no challenge at all.. : )

Its always nice to see a observation round going on, since ultimately the motive to this astronomy challenge is to raise awareness in astronomy towards the various institutions. This way, not only can we promote this hobby as a theoretical subject, but also show the community that there are a lot of practical astronomers out there as well.

Nevertheless, may the best team wins! And not forgetting, winning is not important. What's important is the things you have learned.

We have allowed Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Republic Polytechnic to register with us. This has been taken as a special exception as the schools did not receive the invitation letters due to an administration fault.

Other then that we are not accepting anymore registrations.

Hi there, YuLong has just spoken to me over the phone. I'm glad that ntu/nus could reply so promptly. I have contacted NP about the event and they should be making neccessary arrangement.

I'm wondering if you could further provide us with details on the competition, as in exact venue/time, content of the competition, entry requirements, and maybe what's the registration charges.

I think it would be even better if you could provide the details officially so that the school could make arrangement for the competition, esp with regards to any registration charges and transportation.

Also, there's some discussion on whether there's any observation. Could you clarify the details with us so we can plan our equipment as according.

. We were very interested in joining the NUS/NTU astronomy challenge.

Yep mooey, All the schools which have registered have in fact already received the official details, registration charges and rules and regulations.

Other then that, for the viewing of general public, I will post the official details before tomorrow afternoon.

Please note that there is NO NEED to bring any equipments from your side.

I'm so glad to see so many people getting more interested in astronomy competitions!

It's a good way to promote astronomy in singapore.. NGC5139, it was a pity you couldn't join, maybe you wanna request nus/ntu to add your school into the invitation list next year? And keep bugging your HOD Science for it next year around march for it.. haha..

I nearly lost my interest in astronomy in secondary school because there was no one to teach or lead me in the correct way, and i hadn't found Singastro back then. I didn't even hear about the NTU/NUS astrochallenge.. It's great that more people learn about it and try to join, so keep up the effort!

Well, NGC5139 there's no astro team in your school? As for my school, all astro-related things go straight to us. So there's no need to bug anyone

I think the NUS-NTU Astrochallenge is new. 3rd year only i think. Or maybe a few years older. So zong, you probably wouldn't have heard of it during your secondary school days.

There are 3 astronomy competitions to look out for each year:
1.NYP astro competition for sec sch students
This competition focuses a lot on calculations and astrophysics.
60 MCQ(1hr) and higher order level response questions.
held in febuary-march.
2. NJC astro cmpetition (cease to exist with effect from 2005) for sec sch students
solar system, deep sky objects,cosmology etc. exact opp when compared to NYP's.
MCQ, project round and buzzer round.
held in april, july
3. NTU/NUS astro competition (fairly new: from 2003-?) for sec and tertiary students
All rounded: MCQ, Project round, buzzer round, OBSERVATION ROUND (cool, finallly! )
held in june hols

In terms of difficulty(based on personal experience): nyp>njc>ntu/nus
Each competition has its own flavour and you get to interect with many interesting people... :worship:
