Astrophotography Image Processing

Post by NGC 5139 »

Hello,

I have a bit of trouble with using Registax 3 to process images. According to the web site, Registax 3's strength suppossedly lies in its ability to do wavelet processing. However, I dont seem to be able to make any sense of the graphs and settings :).

Could anyone please enlighten me on this? Thank you :)

Hi,
At every wavelet layer, there is a preview button. Click on the preview button, the software will display a enchance map. The enchance map will show you which pixels will be enchance when you change that setting. Just change the setting until you like what you see.

Have a nice day.

Hi NGC5139,

Can we have a look at one of your raw frames?

I suspect that it's just that your stacked image does not contain enough detail or is out of focus.

What scope and mount are you using?

Cheers,
Chris

The scope was a 8-inch SCT and the mount was a Vixen Sphinx mount. I seem to have some problem focusing when taking the image. Yes, I also agree fully that it lacks detail.

The camera used was a Nikon Coolpix 4500 on movie (.avi) mode. Would better results be achieved with a ToUcam? :)

Thank you :)

What is the dimension of each raw frame? Can you remember which EP was used to capture this movie?

I got something like your stack of 500 image, I believe my 320x240 frame size for movie is bit too small.

p/s: sorry that you miss the mars watch 05 due to some reason, hope to do mars watch with you again soon.

I can't remember the exact dimensions of the movie when recorded, but it was about 320X240 when I opened it in Registax after converting it from .mov format to .avi format using Quicktime Pro.

Could it be due to the weather and high-altitude cloud that gave rise to the lack of detail? I think the focusing was not done well enough.

Hope that I won't get sore eyes on the eve of another big astronomy event and miss out on it again :).
