Hmm i wonder... telescope or eyepiece?

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

astrophoto

Post by Aryanto »

hmm i got a 127 mak, i feel that i isn't very gd at taking pics of dso. I used to have a reflector ( celestron 114 ) then now i have a 127 mak.
OMG this guy is 2 timing. :D hehehe.
I have not been to any gathering but may be if you meet some of the expert here they can help you fix your scope? Sometimes it is not the scope but it is the setting... like collimation.
And 1 more que, can a normal tripod which dun have any tracking motor ( Manfrotto 190DB with 410 gear head ) take decent pics of dso using digital cam like canon a80 which only give a max of 15 sec long exposure.
Astro photo... hmmm... I am looking for Santa. He is flying from north to south. :D

If you want amazing astro photo you MUST have a motor.
I just realize how fast moon was moving when I am taking a shot at it a week ago. You can see my moon photo on my post
I have to keep on tracking it an finally decided to put it slightly to the bottom until I find a good setting, wait for it to be in the center, before I capture the photo.

I think some people here will teach you about mounting etc. I am also using manfrotto, 501 videohead and 055CLB tripod. No astro mounting. No motor.

I saw your postings. You have been here a while... more than me :)

Very expensively. :k-sad: Can somebody console me on this tragedy.

Cannot be compared with the price offered by mcgill.
Esp since mcgill also offer one extra stuff. Can't remember what's the item. But I buy there coz nobody else offer locally. And I do not want to pay international shipping charge when shopping via internet. :k-_-:

I also was offered william optics by 2 people here and a used mak. Unfortunately the williams are too big and heavy for me, and the mak is a tad too big. :k-worried:

I am actually intending to use it more for nature photo, kind of cheapo extreme-tele lense. :k-woohoo:

a mak/sct is not reflector (although it has mirrors, etc), it's a catadioptric

Differences in optical systems:
A) refractor = uses ONLY LENSES (refract light)
B) reflector = uses ONLY MIRRORS (reflect light). Parabolic mirror.
C) catadioptric = uses LENS and MIRRORS (for SCT, aspheric lens in front known as the corrector plate to correct spherical aberration. Spherical primary mirror. These are also known as folded system as they fold the light path and hence the scopes are shorter in length compared to commerically unfolded systems like reflector/refractor.)

from personal experience, sometimes premium eyepiece doesn't mean everything.. on of my obs session in school, viewing mars thru an orthoscopic eyepiece and my friend's pentax eyepiece, mars actually looked a bit better with ortho than with pentax.. brighter n clearer.. cos fewer lens elements i think..
