CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Hmm... I thought GM8 is one of the best mount for Astrophotography??
Most experts (Ron Wodaski, our own Jean-Yves, etc) do not recommend GM8 for imaging. They recommended GPDX/EM10 or GM11/EM200 depending on the load of OTA and exposure time.

Of course, if you're an expert like Weixing, any mounts can produce fantastic images :-) Where is your first image taken from the new refractor? :-)

Hi,

Hmm... any reason why so?? Because GM8 (30lbs max loading) is in the same category as GPDX (22.1lbs max loading) and the dual-axis motor of GM8 got PEC and accept Auto-Guider, which GPDX dual-axis motor drive does not... unless you use SkySensor 2000. Also, the GM8 use 180 tooth worm gear and GPDX only use 144 tooth worm gear. From all the specification and review I saw last time, GM8 should be at least as good as GPDX if not better.
Of course, if you're an expert like Weixing, any mounts can produce fantastic images
I'm not expert... I'm just a beginner with "thick" skin... ha ha ha =P =P =P
Where is your first image taken from the new refractor?
I don't think I'll image through my 120 refractor... it's an achromat and F8, unless for small nebula such as planetary nebula. Anyway, will like to learn and try on piggyback imaging and guiding first.

Have a nice day.

The PE of GPD is around 8-10 arc secs, the GM8 is twice that, which still makes it a good mount for imaging. But if I have to choose between the two, and my OTA is 16lbs or less (75% max load), i'll go with GPD anytime.

Ha ha ha... me too... :P The GM8 is a bit too heavy for me.

Have a nice day.

i would agree with the sentiment that the losmandy mounts in my experience offer worse guiding performance (higher PEC) than respective mounts like the GPD (OUT OF THE BOX). Unless you do fine tuning, get better pads, precision worm gears, it is not as "good to go" than other mounts like the popular Vixen GPDs.

nice image. but noticed that it is magenta skewed....you might have to do some adjustment in midtones slider in PS.

Remus,
Thanks for the input.
I have re-adjusted the images. Hope they look better now.
