I'm not exaggerating; some people literally just drag the C6 Newt OTA on the floor of the bus and they don't even know what is inside that tube. Since the scopes are large and have many components, there will be quite many people carrying the parts and it is quite unavoidable that people who are helpful enough (helpful because most people who go for such trips are couples who won't be bothered about these stuff) to carry them but sadly have not seen telescopes before are carrying the scopes, tripods etc; obviously it will be damaged.

the main fault with c8 is that the glue holding secondary mirror to corrector plate, after so many years, just worn off. c6 is still working fine. mirror washed, collimated, etc. we definately handle the scopes with care but after too many hands, things happen. can't put all the blame on those handling them. like you can't possibly compare taxi to private car.

The C8 OTA I have is almost 20 yrs old (Ijust got it last year)... and it's still going strong .. .:) I think C8s are known to be workhorses and lots of people use theirs for many years ...I don't think the glue will just wear off that easily. Of course, with proper care and handling, they'll last much longer. :)

Have you seen the way taxi drivers drive?? HAHA ... I've seen them go at 90 on the expressway on 4th gear!!! ... if they somehow bothered to shift to 5th gear more often and don't accelerate as hard as they do, taxis would probably be less noisy ... :) Again, it comes down to the handling .. :)

Yo Canopus, i'm sure the club would appreciate it if you can come down to give a demostration on how to handle the scopes. How about volunteering your services? 8-)

Could you please post the exact dates of the NUS-NTU 2006 competition dates? If not at least the latest news of in which week it will take place?

I was saying other people handling the scopes. I was not saying NTU astronomy main comm or sub comm on how they handled the scope which I feel would handle the scopes properly. That's all. It is what I saw in the past. Now may be different. I was just giving you guys feedback that next time there could be more people in charge of looking after the scopes that's all.
