CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

I had little success in detecting these galexies visually with the 4 inch apo even with the help of light pollution filter. The camera did a better job in revealing these faint fuzzies. It is a composite of 41x150s subs at ISO800, captured by TV Genesis SDF and Canon 350D(mod). Dark & Flat calibrated.

Nice photo! With their low surface brightness, you really need dark skies like those in Mersing (and a large aperture :) ) to observe galaxies visually and to pick out details like dustlanes and spiral structures.
We do it in the dark...

Nice picture!

Yup. Aperture rules! It is sort of interesting to visually detect these features on galaxies using a telescope. :)

Very nice pic you've got! The faintest one is NGC 3628. U can definitely see all 3 with a 3 inch refractor in Mersing skies using low power. :D

Where was this pic taken? In Singapore or Mersing?

Hi all, thanks!

The picture was taken in Singapore. Yes its a good representation on what you can see with a small refractor under dark skies.

How come they're reddish??
Hi, that is the part that i am still trying to get it right. Modified slr with internal IR filter removed is inherent with over sensitivity to red. Custom white balance has to be right to produce 'correct' colour tone. However, it can still be corrected during processing, but apparently i am still not good at it...hee..
