Post by amin7074 »

hi all,

after trying the jupiter image in this forum with my little compact digital camera..  my hand starts to feel itchy after all the comments given to me, to try out planetary imaging with webcamera.Decide to look for really good deals at cash converter   too see Aiptek HyperVcamerawith color Cmos sensor chip for $8/- :D :D try out the camera on terestrial object seems ok.Then I do the little DIY project on the camera housing since the original housing is so bulky and quite heavy just 3 item I used to make the modified housing: black sponge, black film canister from kodak & and black little container...Try out the camera on jupiter but so sadly..... :( :( :( the image turn jupiter into a little potato lah.....aiya... :cry:can someone in this forum try too figure out what when wrong with my webcamera since the camera work ok on terestrial but why not this little potato...... :?: :?: :?:

maybe your black film canister is not perpendicular with the sensor? and "off axis"?

if you place the web cam directly at the end of your scope, you need to remove the webcam's original lens, did you?

Is the opening on the film canister too small (pin hole) ?

why the black sponge?

alamak.... bro, then how to get it perpendicular with the sensor????
any good idea to align with the sensor.

yes bro the lens is completely remove.

Is the opening on the film canister too small (pin hole) ?
it is the actual size of the canister approximately about the same size of the 1.25" eyepiece.

another pic...

the black sponge is just to support the chip firmly in the box...so i do not need to glue the chip.

Hi,
the image turn jupiter into a little potato lah
May be you could show us how does the "little potato" look like?? May be it'll give us some clue what's wrong.

Have a nice day.

Maybe there's nothing wrong with your webcam? Perhaps Jupiter really became a little potato? That's the fun in astronomy - anything can happen! I will confirm your findings tonight if the sky is clear..

sorry I don't know exactly how to make it perpendicular. I would try to "level" everything while carefully attaching the parts together.

Btw, just a thought regarding the black foam, I think it could act as an insulator thus making the sensor to produce more noise due to heat

:) but, don't worry too much.
