NGC 3628 Galaxy from Mersing

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

NGC 3628 Galaxy from Mersing

Post by rcj »

Hi all,

Here is a 'rough' image of NGC3628 edge-on galaxy (Leo) taken during extremely windy conditions in the recent 8th March Mersing trip. Due to high frequency of passing cumulus clouds (although the transparency was above average), this is a stack of two 5-min frames using the 5-inch refractor and SBIG camera. There was just not enough clear sky time to take it in colour as originally intended. Well, guess it was a shot in the dark! Note that the viscinity around this galaxy is known to have numerous X-ray sources such as quasars, etc.

I always like to see little dim galaxies in galaxies pictures, I think I can spot a few here.

Ooops, can see the effects of the wind, has messed up a bit of the autoguiding and gave elongated stars.

Excellent !
How do you power the SBIG at Mersing? 12V? In that case, which adaptor do you use?

Thanks
