Sharing an old pic!

Post by timatworksg »

Hi All,

Firstly, if this pic is in the wrong section, mods, please feel free to divert it.

During a chat with Croy on photography, I recalled an old pic I took when I was freelancing as a commercial photographer. I was on location at Mount Faber Cable Car station and awaiting arrival of some models when myself and the creative director was taken by the streaks of lightning over Sentosa. It wasn't raining over Sentosa, nor at Mount faber, but as you can see in the pic, Rain is falling in the background over Pulau Bukom. I was only armed with my Fuji S3 and with no tripod, decided to rest the DSLR on the balcony railing of Altivo and fire away exposures hoping to at least get one! The lightning streaks were on-going, 2-4 streaks within a 4-6 secs space. I recalled taking 20+ exposures and when I reviewed them, jumped for joy when I saw this particular image. Proceeded to off load it onto the Creative directors laptop and thats when he noticed the lightning striking something. With the wonders of a digital image, he zoomed in, and as you can see from the insert image, what it hit!

Well that was some time back....and I still have it till today on archive. Don't think about it much, but I love lightning and watching it streak. Gotta say, it's a keepsake.

So sharing this story and the image with you all,....especially for Croy!!! yes croy, Fuji Finepix S3 Pro...hehe!

Thanks for reading!!

oh man...that looked like a ship it hit and ships are mostly metal!
That's scary..I mean I have been on boats out in the open during stormy weather. Can't imagine being struck by lightning.
Thanks for sharing. As amazing as that water spout shot from East Coast a while back. [smilie=crying3.gif]

Thanks guys for the nice words! It was definately a shot in a million years..lol!
But now when I look at it, the ferociousness & tenacity of electricity rumbling down looking for a grounded spot can happen anywhere! And the length and size of this, scares me really!

@Airconvent : Ships are grounded,..to the sea so as long as a direct hit is concerned, no one is at top deck in the open,..their safe in their safety areas within the lower decks. Incidentally, the West of Singapore is lightning prone and Pulau Bukom, which was set ablaze in the late 1970's due to such a lightning strike to one of the tanks, still gets hit till today. However with new safety measures and equipment, a fire is avoidable. However a storm warning is given and workers are mustered indoors.

@guangwei : thanks bro!! I enjoy this image till today! In fact, in my entire life of photography, It's the ONLY lightning image I have...HAHA!!
