Indeed. The setup is very impressive, much like a mobile observatory.Airconvent wrote:Sorry I missed this. but whoa...the participants must think Remus is working as an Air Defence contractor!rlow wrote:

Hi more photos:

Re: SPACE ADVENTURES,Public Stargazing Session[organized by
think this would be one public stargazing session that some of us will not forget - soggy wet shoes, mud-spotted pants/jeans, etc... and if it means deploying the telescopes on these grounds, it is amazing that everything still went on as planned, with the weather cooperating as well, and the dedicated NLB folks doing a GREAT JOB laying down cardboard pieces, so that everyone can enjoy the night views through every telescope located at the field (next to the library). A very grateful and earnest salute to all those who brought along their telescopes, deployed them on less-than-ideal grounds, and servicing the queues of toddlers, children, parents, and other members of the public all eager to have their go at popular targets like Saturn and the Moon. The Jurong Library was also very nicely "decorated" with astronomy-related posters, props, and other elements (tv displays, photographic gallery (solar photography by our Mr W.N Ng!), etc). The schedule for the entire event (from 1030AM to almost 11PM plus) was quite tight, but everyone including the staff went through the whole programme with little interruptions. Speakers like Dr Robert Casteels, Andrew Melia, library staff, took turns to educate the public on all aspects of astronomy, and the folks from Galaxy CC assisted to hosting the Boardgames Mania segment. It was good to see newbies, and old friends, all over the area. Wished I could take sometime off to chit-chat with everyone, but it was a day of battling with ensuring everything goes ok, and also diarrhoea and flu! NLB was a great organization to work with, very professional, yet very warm and patient with the younger ones. Even after the event was officially over, all the staff helped in to remove the soggy cardboards and litter from the field, resulting in carrying heavy loads of filled black trash bags all the way back to the central rubbish premises. The rest of us gradually packed up, and adjourned for supper (actually dinner for some of us) at a late-night coffeeshop outlet in the west.
Again, would like to thank everyone, NLB, telescope-owners, for participating and coming for the event, what more, in an almost full-moon night. The giant projection screen (with moon and saturn) was a last minute idea, but glad it took off. At least while the people were queuing, they could also see the objects on the screen.
Here are some sample event photos (pardon the quality!):
