CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Sun (spot) 21 Nov 2013

Post by lqx »

Finally picked up a mono webcam after months of procrastination! [smilie=bye2.gif]
Skies had been cloudy/rainy for the past week so I had to test with marginally clear skies yesterday!

Sharing a section of the sun with the huge sunspot which was visible yesterday!
My second attempt at processing on the sun, any feedback/suggestions most welcome! [smilie=cute2.gif]

Image

Imaged using:
ASI 120mm, Tak TSA-102, SF-70 filter.

I seem to be getting Newtonian rings on my images, and flats didn't seem to remove it fully--in fact it made it worse (!!) on some subs!
Any suggestions from the shifus here? [smilie=cool.gif]
I've seen some possible remedies in... (a) getting some sort of a camera tilt adaptor (hardware solution), (b) trying some FFT to diminish the periodic lines... (had trouble finding a suitable filter on photoshop CS6... might try other editing software next time!)

Here is the full disk taken at close to 11 am on the same day.

Thanks Born, Gary, Alfred! [smilie=bye2.gif]

Nice images Alfred! That huge dark sunspot was super contrasty in the eyepiece and I was staring at it for a long long while! [smilie=admire.gif]
Yes, that long filament too! Maybe we might see another nice burst like that little lizard/dragon filament the other time! =)

But it's somewhat in the middle of the disk facing Earth so...... [smilie=hell-yes.gif]

i feel its the biggest single sunspot seen so far! been looking at weekends thru a Baader film filter (when weather permits)
I miss the place where stars shine bright, to gaze upwards in awe of the sight
