southern sky wide field

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

southern sky wide field

Post by aquillae »

hello guys,

Finally the sky cleared up a bit past midnite, so i decided to try image the star-fields around the Southern Cross for the first time. I also managed to see and image halo around the almost-full moon.

Being a Southern sky newbie (beginner) observer, i would say, wow! this region is really rich, beautiful and promising :D .

spec: Canon 350D on a fixed tripod :: 30seconds 18mm @ f/5.6 :: ISO800

simple annotated version:

and here's the moon halo:

I spotted Saturn next to the moon and did some quick observation using my Orion 80ED..ahhh...it's been a while...
:)

Clear Skies,

jeff

Thanks a lot guys :D . When I was drawing the lines on the image, I initially thought there's an unknown nova, but it turned out to be the Omega Centauri haha :P (still learning here).

Weixing, thanks! I didn't know that the small cluster under the Keyhole neb. is called the Southern Pleiades.

Arief, yup, I'm staying in Lampung now. At the place where I took the pic (a bit outside the town), the limiting magnitude is around 4. I think the sky will be much better if I drive for 1/2-1 hr away.
